Making elected government work...

44% of Denver's registered voters actually voted last Tuesday. That's really good.
"WHAT?!?? That's really GOOD?", you may ask.
Yes, that is really good. The national average was 33%. We're 11% above the national average (which means that some state was at about 22%, yikes).

Some people say, "Voting doesn't work. None of the candidates stand for the same issues I do. There's too much money in the system for it to work. Nobody does anything once they're elected. etc... etc... etc..."
There are two solutions to this:
1. Vote anyway, when people see that progressives are voting, progressive candidates will start showing up. Vote for that candidate who doesn't bend over for big money, that helps too.
2. Run for office. If you think that you have a pretty good idea of what's right, what needs changing, what doesn't work, then you're probably at least twice the candidate of 3/4 of those on ballots last Tuesday.

Voting can work. Right now, it only works for the rich, but it can work for us too. Once we all start voting, we can effectively remove big money from campaigns, we can effectively resist war, we can effectively work to save the environment, we can effectively gain truly equal rights, and we can effectively own a democracy... when we vote.
Obviously, voting is not the only solution. We need to educate, we need to organize, we need to build something that is ours, a lot of this needs to be done outside of public office. But having public officials on our side would sure be nice for once.
If you aren't registered to vote, it's never too early, and it's often too late.
Click Here to download a voter registration application. Fill it out, mail it in, be ready to vote next time.
If you move, you can change your voter registration address when you change your driver's license address. It's very easy.
If you need any help, if you need a registration form, if you need a mailing address, if you need to know where the post office is, send me e-mail. I may be able to assist with any number of problems.

Next time, no excuses, all of you must be registered and vote.
Love,
